The department of Aquatic Veterinary Medicine was established in 2017 with the approval of the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China. It is intensively supported and developed under the requirement of the Ministry of Agriculture. This Aquatic discipline is the type-A first-class discipline of Fujian Province, as well as the prioritized characteristic discipline of Fujian Province. It has a thorough talent training system starting from undergraduate programme to postgraduate programme and postdoctoral mobile station.

    Training goals: The aquatic animal medicine major is aimed to nurture professional talents and encourage sustainable development in the field, thereby contributing to the national development strategy and industrial needs of aquatic animal health and welfare. It highlights the training characteristics of “solid foundation, hard practice, and high quality”. It further strengthens students’ clinical diagnosis and treatment, along with scientific research capabilities of aquatic animal diseases, based on their professional knowledge of aquatic animal basic medicine. The ultimate goal is to cultivate students’ knowledge of and affection for agriculture, and develop their full potential in moral, intellectual, physical, social and aesthetic domains so that students are prepared to engage in aquatic animal disease prevention and control, inspection and quarantine, and fishery drug development in aquaculture production, animal health care enterprises, etc. In addition, it is committed to nurturing top innovative talents and compound application talents in aquatic fields so as to ensure that students can stretch their abilities to the full in scientific and technological development and research.
