Aquaculture is one major with the longest undergraduate education history in Jimei University. It was founded when the former Shanghai Fisheries College moved to Xiamen to establish Xiamen Fisheries College in 1972. It was listed as a national specialty major construction project in 2010, listed as a national comprehensive reform project in 2013, selected as a national excellent agriculture and forestry professional education and training plan reform project in 2014, listed as a service industry characteristic specialty construction project in Fujian Province, and listed as a national first-class undergraduate specialty construction project by the Ministry of education in 2019. The Fisheries discipline of this major is a class A peak discipline in Fujian Province and a characteristic key discipline in Fujian Province. It has a complete professional training system of Undergraduate- Master- Doctor-Postdoctoral station.
