The major of Marine Fishery Science and Technology was established by Xiamen Fisheries College in 1972. This major aims at the needs of national and regional marine fishery economic development, gives full play to the unique fishery resources and location advantages of the Taiwan Strait, and focuses on basic knowledge and skills of marine fishery resources conservation and utilization and fishery scientific management. In 2014, it was selected as the pilot project of national excellent agriculture and forestry talents education and training plan reform, and in 2019, it was listed as the provincial first-class undergraduate specialty construction point by the Ministry of education. This major belongs to the discipline of aquatic fishery, which is a A class peak discipline and a characteristic key discipline in Fujian Province. It has a complete talent training system from undergraduate to Master Doctor postdoctoral mobile station.

    Training objectives: the major is guided by the concept of modern marine talent education, serves and leads the relevant industry and local economy, highlights the educational characteristics of "emphasizing foundation, strengthening practice and being able to innovate", focus on the professional knowledge of marine fishery science and technology, strengthens students' practical skills of marine fishery technology, scientific research and innovation and scientific research ability, and cultivates moral, intellectual and professional talents. It is also to cultivate a variety of new agricultural marine fishery talents with all-round development of morality, intelligence, sports, beauty and labor, good scientific and cultural literacy, high sense of social responsibility, capable of undertaking the mission of strengthening agriculture and revitalizing agriculture, and capable of engaging in the conservation and utilization of fishery resources, fishery production, fishery law enforcement and management, education and scientific research in marine fishery field.
